Mark Byers, Chairman

An entrepreneur and expert in supporting, developing and managing information systems, Mr. Byers leads the DSS, Inc. and Sage HMS management teams. Mr. Byers founded DSS, Inc. in 1994 and since that time it has provided integrated clinical and administrative applications for VistA, the award winning health care information system used by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). DSS also offers vxVistA, an open source, enhanced version of VistA for use in non-VA settings, as well as a complete suite of add-on modules that improve the capabilities of VistA. The company provides software, integration, installation, project management, training, support and development for VistA and vxVistA. DSS is also a supporter and founder of www.vxvista.org, a collaboration environment supporting the adoption of VistA and vxVistA, as well as thought leadership and best practices.

Under his leadership, today DSS, Inc. employs more than 275 employees and currently there are over 2,300 facilities that use DSS clinical and administrative applications. In 2007, DSS, Inc. acquired Sage Health Management Solutions, Inc. as a wholly-owned subsidiary.

Mr. Byers has more than 30 years of diverse information technology and management experience in a variety of industries including health care, insurance, aerospace and defense, manufacturing and consumer products. He has 17 years experience as a computer programmer, business analyst, project manager and consultant and has been involved in the development of electronic medical record software for over 11 years.

Mr. Byers has a B.A. in Economics from the University of Missouri and an A.S. in Data Processing from St. Louis Community College.

Ronald Byers

Mr. Byers is a practicing attorney at law and principal of the venerable Independence, Missouri law firm of Newhouse, Byers and Swaney. He currently provides legal representation, services and counsel to a variety of small businesses and technology companies, and individuals or business clients requiring estate planning. He was a founder of DSS, Inc., the parent company of Sage Health Management Solutions, and continues to provide the company's legal support and counsel.

His law career began in 1974 as a clerk for the late Solbert M. Wasserstrom of the Missouri Court of Appeals at Kansas City. His time at the court was followed by 8 years of practice with the Kansas City firm of Rosenwald and Jacob, before moving to Independence. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he received both B.A. and J.D. degrees. Mr. Byers is a member of the Missouri Bar, the Bar of the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri, and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar and the Eastern Jackson County Bar Associations.

He resides in Blue Springs, Missouri and has been active in a variety of Independence and Kansas City civic and business-related organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America, the Independence Chamber of Commerce, and the Independence Kiwanis Club.

V. Katherine Gray, Ph.D.

Dr. Gray has a broad background in management, product development, and marketing and sales in health care.  She has been a senior executive at Physicians' Health Plan (now Medica)--a United Healthcare Corporation managed health plan, Health Risk Management, the Center for Diagnostic Imaging, HealthOne Corporation--a hospital corporation, and the Ebenezer Center for Aging.  Her twenty-five year career has included management positions in many segments of the health care industry, including HMO's and managed care, health care management for self-insured employers, long-term care, hospital systems, Medicaid and Medicare risk contracting, and specialty care clinic systems.

A pioneer in health care quality and efficiency improvements, in 1997 Dr. Gray founded Sage Health Management Solutions, Inc. and has led an experienced team to develop a patented technology to improve the diagnostic process using Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) combined with evidence-based imaging clinical decision support. She was recognized by the U.S. Department of Commerce for her entrepreneurial efforts when she represented America at the first Franco-American Entrepreneur exchange in Paris in 2005.

Dr. Gray has served on several non-profit boards, as well as private and public sector committees, including her current position on the Medical Alley Board of Directors.  Dr. Gray is the recipient of the 1994 “Woman of Distinction Award,” the 1999 Mansfield, Tanick & Cohen “Women's Entrepreneurship Award,” and the Women's Health Leadership Trust's “Outstanding Achievement Award.”  In July 2001, she was recognized by City Business as one of the 25 Most Innovative Women in the Twin Cities for the technology developed and patented by Sage HMS.  Dr. Gray has completed a BBA in Marketing from Marshall University, Huntington WV, and MA, PhD, and Post Doctoral Year at the University of Minnesota.

Christopher J. Gondeck

Mr. Gondeck currently is President of EBF & Associates, a securities and investment brokerage firm. Previously Mr. Gondeck served as Chief Financial Officer for Sage HMS and was President of Growth Financial Services, LLC, a financial services company offering part-time CFO services.

From 1995 to 1998, Mr. Gondeck served as Chief Financial Officer of Video Update, Inc., a publicly traded video retail chain. While at Video Update, Mr. Gondeck directed corporate finance during a period of rapid growth; growing from $7 M to over $140 M in annual sales. During this time, Video Update acquired over 20 companies, raised over $60 million in three public offerings, and secured a $60 million bank line of credit with a group of major U.S. and Canadian banks. During 1994, Mr. Gondeck was a financial consultant to Corning-Donahue, Inc. and Fire Brick Supply, a privately held brick and tile business. From 1992 through March, 1994, Mr. Gondeck served as Senior Vice President and CFO for Premier Salons International, Inc. ("Premier"), a privately held company based in Toronto, Ontario. Prior to December 1993, Premier was known as MEI Salon Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of MEI Diversified, Inc., which operated over 1,000 hair care salon locations throughout the United States and Canada. From 1981 to 1992, Mr. Gondeck served in various financial and management capacities for MEI Diversified. Prior to MEI Diversified, Mr. Gondeck served as a staff accountant with Ernst & Young LLP.

Mr. Gondeck is a certified public accountant, receiving a BS in Accounting from St. Cloud State University.

Robert J. Missroon

As Chief Financial Officer of Sage HMS parent company, DSS Inc., Mr. Missroon oversees the financial planning and direction for both companies. He has been with DSS, Inc. since its inception-from its early beginning with just a few employees, one client and limited service offerings-through its periods of growth, helping to build it into a company with 100-plus employees, multiple products and services and more than 100 clients.

Mr. Missroon is a certified public accountant (CPA) and prior to joining DSS, Inc. he had his own private accounting practice. In addition, he was a professor of accounting at Savannah State University and St. Leo's University in Tampa.

He is a graduate of the University of Georgia where he received his undergraduate business degree and Savannah State where he received an MBA.
