Minneapolis, MN. – Sage Health Management Solutions® (Sage HMS) announces that Medica, headquartered in Minnetonka, MN, serving Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota, has begun a pilot program using the Internet-based RadWiseÒ system for radiology decision-support and for improving quality of care for Medica health plan members.
“The RadWise Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) process improves clinic practice by reducing medical errors and is Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant for security and privacy,” said V. Katherine Gray, Ph.D., CEO and President of Sage HMS. “The body of literature for medical science and technology has been doubling about every four years, which creates the need for the RadWise system to aid physicians not only with the latest medical evidence, but also with ordering the most appropriate diagnostic tests and communicating the details of the case. Medica has been interested in our services for some time, and we are pleased that they have initiated this pilot.”
“We are always looking for ways to promote quality and safety for our members,” said Charles Fazio, M.D., Medica's Vice President and Medical Director for Quality. “RadWise supports appropriate clinical decision making for an individual patient without constraining the physician’s own expertise. It provides relevant information as the physician needs it and based upon the individual patient’s symptoms.”
“The Institute of Medicine has published two national reports that support the Sage HMS initiative of using a CPOE system in the area of diagnostic testing to improve quality,” reports Dr. Gray. “Sage HMS is the first to market with this type of technology. As customers have used RadWise, we have made improvements based upon user feedback. We are committed to an efficient, effective tool for the referring physicians.”
